DESCRIPTION: The Point San Luis Lighthouse was originally built in 1890. It is entirely made of redwood and has gone through many changes. In 1974 the Coast Guard closed the lighthouse. In 1995 the Port San Luis Harbor District acquired the property from the Federal Government to be restored and open to the public. The restoration is still in progress but they are doing a terrific job. It is a 4 mile roundtrip, somewhat strenuous, hike to get there but well worth the effort.
